Start with what your website needs to do
A website that explains a few services and collects enquiries has different requirements from an online shop or a custom booking application. Write down your essential pages, contact method and any specialist functions before comparing prices. Ask whether the quoted solution can actually deliver those functions. Paying for features you do not need, or buying a simple site that cannot support a required workflow, can both become expensive.
Understand a builder subscription versus a custom project
With a website builder, you normally create and edit the content using an existing platform and pay for continued access and hosting. A custom project may include a separate design and development fee, with maintenance and hosting quoted separately. Neither approach has one universal South African market price. Compare written quotes with the same requirements and clarify who will handle future edits.
What Portaly costs
Portaly's Base plan costs R75 per month for each site. At that monthly price, twelve monthly payments total R900; this is a budget illustration, not an annual plan or a discounted yearly offer. You can build and preview your draft before reaching checkout. Each site has its own subscription, so creating a second business site adds a separate monthly charge.
What is included in the Base subscription
The subscription includes your Portaly subdomain, website hosting and HTTPS, desktop and phone editing, templates, additional pages, a reusable image library, SEO controls and an enquiry inbox. You maintain the website content in your owner workspace. These included features mean you do not need to buy a separate SEO plugin or arrange a separate web-hosting account to use the Portaly site.
Check the address and email costs separately
The included website address is a Portaly subdomain, such as your-business.portaly.co.za. It is not the registration of an independent domain name. A business mailbox is also separate from website hosting. If you choose another provider for email or other business tools, check its charges and renewal terms directly. Do not assume a low website price includes every service your business may need.
Allow for content and any specialist services
Your own photographs, service descriptions and existing logo may be enough to begin. If you hire someone for copywriting, photography or branding, those are separate services. Stock-image licences can also have restrictions and costs. Portaly's builder helps you arrange your content; it does not promise custom design work, a shopping cart or a specialist booking system as part of the monthly site subscription.
Ask these questions before committing
What is charged today and what renews later? How many sites or pages does the quote cover? Is the address a subdomain or a domain you own? Who controls the content and makes updates? What happens if you cancel? Read the provider's pricing, Terms and Privacy Policy and resolve unclear items before paying. Compare the full ongoing commitment, not just the largest number on the price card.
Useful answers before you start.
Is Portaly free?
The published Base site is a paid subscription at R75 per month. Building and previewing before checkout is different from offering a free published website.
Is there an annual Portaly plan?
The current Base plan is billed monthly. R900 represents twelve payments at the current monthly price; it is not an annual checkout option.
Does adding another page increase the subscription?
Additional pages on the same site belong to that site's Base subscription. A separate website has its own subscription.
Where do I manage payments or cancel?
Use subscription management in your owner workspace and refer to Portaly's Terms for the current billing and cancellation conditions.
